Celebrate Cleveland!

by: Penny Parker, March 12, 2014

Last week, while attending a networking event, I was INSPIRED!  TRULY!  The speaker was Ivan Schwartz, President of The Greater Cleveland Film Commission.  His topic?  The movies!  Specifically, the over 20 films produced here in Cleveland over the last couple of years.  You’ll know the most thrilling….The Avengers Series tops the list, along with Batman and other Marvel adventures.

Mr. Schwartz discussed the excitement around the whole ‘Hollywood does Cleveland’ thing.  But what really grabbed me was his commentary on Cleveland.  You would think someone from Los Angeles would think Cleveland a little, rusty, nothing-midwest city….but in fact, Mr. Schwartz is one of Cleveland’s loudest cheerleader.  In fact, he said something that stuck with me.  (Paraphrasing here)  ‘You folks in Cleveland don’t talk about your City so much.  And you should!  Cleveland is a fantastic city filled with great restaurants and night spots, culture and the arts.  A cost of living that is VERY do-able, and enough green space to make the outdoors a destination.  The great Lake Erie and miles and miles of coast line.  Professional sports teams, the Rock Hall of Fame and all kinds of music venues.’

WOW!  As he continued, I began to think…you know!  He’s right!  So, here I am CELEBRATING CLEVELAND!  And, in my way, reminding all of you what a great city we live in.  Each of us have multiple opportunities to let others know what a great place our City is, AND, encourage them to visit our great town.  More importantly, visit, enjoy and invest in our city.  Synergistically, we all have the ability to enlighten those we know in our worlds.  No small job granted.  But, each one of us, in our own way, can make it happen.

WOW! Cookies! is changing our tag line.  We are now CLEVELAND’S NEW ADDICTION!  I want all the recipients of our cookies and brownies to know that these treats regale from Cleveland, Ohio!  That a ‘sweet taste’ of Cleveland is at their fingertips.  My contribution to Cleveland’s great reputation.  So, next time you need to impress an out-of-towner….send them a taste of Cleveland!  First impressions count!

Meantime, send your friends this blog and give them a glimpse of what Cleveland has to offer!  A jewel on the Lake Erie coast!  Reposting this blog will get to a lot of folks.  I’ll bet you could add to this list.  Now that I think of it…I’m pretty impressed too!  Cleveland Rocks!
